Ministries And Organizations:
The Vatican Council II stresses in its various decrees, the importance of the Laity in the ministry of the Church. In the Decree on the Apostolate of Lay People (Apostolicum Actuositatem) Nov. 18, 1965 it is said "In its desire to intensify the apostolic activity of the People of God, the Council now earnestly turns its thoughts to the Christian Laity.
The laity by Baptism are inserted in the mystical Body of Christ. In confirmation, they are Strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit. As Peter says in 1 Peter 2:4-10 they are consecrated a Kingly Priesthood and a Holy Nation. It is so that they may in all their actions offer Spiritual Sacrifices and bear witness to Christ all the World over. They are called to Apostolate. An apostolate lived in faith, hope and Charity.
It is this truth which has motivated many of Christ's Faithful at st. Edward to be involved in the different ministries and organizations present at the Parish.
All the Ministries and Organizations are inviting others to join them in the ministry. When you read their names and their brief History, if you are not a Member of any of them, may the Spirit touch you to start answering the question "how can I repay the Lord for His goodness to me?" Then call the Parish office or any mamber of the organizations and ministries for more information.
Lector's Ministry:-
"We Proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was made manifest to us- that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ" 1John 1:2-3.
The Vatican Council II Stresses the importance of the laity taking their Role in Proclaiming the Word of God. (Read Vatican Council II Documents - Verbum Dei, and the lectionary for Mass. It is clearly stated in No. 51 that "The reader has his/her particular functions in the Mass and it is he/she who should fulfil them even though ministers of higher rank may be present,
The Lectors at St. Edward's Parish Prolaim the Word of God on Sundays and Holidays of Obligation and any other day when Mass is Celebrated. It is open to anyone who hears the call. They meet whenever need arises.
