Jerusalem is favored by the Lord.  Kings and peoples will come before you.  The riches of the earth will be placed at the gates of Jerusalem.

Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6     [Good News for all]

Paul admits that God has revealed the divine plan of salvation to him.  Not only the Jews, but also the whole Gentile world, will share in the Good News. 

Matthew 2:1-12  [Magi with Gifts]

Kings Herod, being jealous of his earthly crown, was threatened by the coming of another king.  The magi from the east followed the star to Bethlehem from which a ruler was to come.

Pastoral PARISH Council nEWS

On Saturday, January 12, 2008, Archdiocesan representatives will present a workshop for all members of the Church family on the roles of the Pastoral Parish Council and the need for proper accounting methods.  Every church ministry must be represented at this workshop and attendance is mandatory.  The time is 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Lunch will be served.  All parishioners are welcomed to attend.  This is an opportune time to learn about the role of the Pastoral Parish Council and parish financial procedures.  A sign sheet will be in the rear of the church.  Please sign up so that plans can be made for the number of persons planning to attend.

FUNDRAISING

Volunteers are needed to develop fundraising procedures and guidelines for all church activities and ministries.  This process will include developing a fundraising calendar of events.  All persons interested in this activity should contact Scarlett Haskins or sign up in the rear of the church.

                                                                                                                                                                         

Lectors Needed

We are in need of additional Lectors, especially for the 4 p.m. Saturday and 8am Sunday masses. If you are interested please contact Michele Hunt, 410-945-1264. If you have not picked up your Liturgy Workbook for 2008 see Michele after the 10 am mass or call her to arrange pickup.

Missals

If you have not picked up your missal please call the parish office to schedule pick up.

If you would like to purchase a missal the cost is $5.00 each.

Living With Christ:

January’s issue of Living With Christ has arrived. The cost for the year (13 issues) is $18.00.  If you requested a subscription please Pick up a marked envelope from the bookrack in the back of the church. Place payment in envelope, fill in requested information, and place in offering basket.

MOTHER LANGE AWARDS BANQUET 

The Mother Lange Awards Banquet is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2008 at Martin’s West.  It is suggested that each parish have a table of 10 persons.  The tickets are $45.00.  All reservations for St. Edward’s must be received by January 13.  Monies will have to be paid by January 31, 2008.

Nomination forms are available for submission of candidates.  All nominations must be turned in by January 8.  The category for the nominations is as follows: 

            An adult showing leadership qualities.

An adult who performs parish ministry and services.

A youth age 12—18 who is a promising young leader.

 

All nominees must consent to have their names submitted.  Remember the deadline.

                                                                                                                                                                       

 

PIRE

I’m sure many of you have heard about some of the very tragic fires in Baltimore City in recent months. The   Archdiocese of Baltimore has partnered with a local non-profit, PIRE, to study the best way to improve fire safety.  PIRE is offering to install free smoke alarms or smoke alarm batteries, and if needed free stairway lights, in your home and will be giving you additional safety information.  There is no charge.  After Mass on January 12 and 13 2008, please see Tarik and Tabatha from PIRE to make an appointment to get your free alarms or to learn more about the study.  They will ask you a few questions at the time of installation and again nine months later.  Don’t miss this opportunity to protect your family and your home.
